Your September print edition is here

Learn about the impact regulation is having on compliance costs and operations, and read our articles on everything from CPD to central banking in the latest print edition of the Review

In the aftermath of the 2008 economic crisis, financial firms have had to get to grips with a raft of regulations that impose stricter controls on how the industry operates. In the September print edition of the Review, which is being delivered to eligible members in the next few days, our cover story examines the cost of compliance and asks whether it is hurting profits.

The latest edition, which focuses on operations, also looks at the effect incoming legislation, in the form of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) II, will have on businesses and their operations, particularly in areas such as telephone and email communication. New rules on the protection of client assets are also put under the microscope.

Moving from big legislation to big names, we caught up with Iain Saville CBE FCSI(Hon) to learn about his life at the forefront of efforts to harmonise securities settlement across Europe, and get his take on the T+2 initiative that he has been so instrumental in making possible.

The magazine also shines a spotlight on economist Thomas Piketty and his views on income equality, and asks: is the global wealth tax he proposes realistic?

Focus on CPDWe have put continuing professional development (CPD) front and centre in the September issue, as we map out the route to achieving the optimal balance for your CPD commitments, and examine big data and why it matters.

There are also thought-provoking columns from our highly respected financial columnists, Christopher Adams and Andrew Davis; an insight into the awe-inspiring, fundraising swimming feats of Claire Bennison, Chartered MCSI; and the Institute outlines its latest plans to encourage and support whistleblowing.

Added to all of this is the latest 12-page edition of the CISI’s new academic journal, Review of Financial Markets, that delivers cutting-edge research.

Once you have read the print edition, keep coming back to the online Journal, which is updated regularly with news, features and comment about the CISI and the financial services industry.

All members, excluding student members, are eligible to receive the quarterly printed edition.Any qualifying member who has opted out of getting the hard copy can change their preferences within MyCISI via the Communications Preferences tab to receive the print edition as of the December 2014 issue.
