To tackle the increased threats of cyber enabled crime and financial crime, the CISI has launched two qualifications on financial crime prevention.
The qualifications, Combating Financial Crime (level 3) and Managing Cyber Security (level 3), provide not just a basic knowledge of the threats posed by cyber crime and financial crime, but also focus on how laws, regulations and best practice continue to evolve across the entire spectrum of associated activities. As a result of this training, successful candidates will learn more about preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, and corruption, and be able to evaluate the risks to the financial services industry and develop effective security solutions to prevent, detect and mitigate cyber attacks.
Matthew Cowan, Chartered MCSI, CISI Regional Director Middle East, India and Sri Lanka said: “Firms of all sizes are raising security measures and adapting their internal systems to ensure they are integrating the latest cyber threat intelligence. A lack of employee understanding with regards to cyber crime can be highly damaging to firms, but such incidents can be prevented by educating staff appropriately. Working with CCL Academy to create a well equipped workforce in the regional industry is a firm step towards effectively preventing financial crime”.

To launch these qualifications, the CISI and CCL Academy co-hosted a continuing professional development (CPD) event in the UAE on the latest developments in financial crime prevention. The breakfast briefing took place on 20 April at the Capital Club in the Dubai International Financial Centre.
The briefing was an opportunity for financial professionals to receive updates from industry experts working across different areas of financial crime prevention, such as cyber security and data privacy, anti bribery and corruption, and third party due diligence. Attendees had the chance to learn first-hand from real life cyber incidents and the risks facing regulated firms.
Speakers at the event included Marc Elie Caspar, Sales Director France & Middle East at LexisNexis; Stuart Hammond, Financial Crime Prevention Trainer at CCL Academy; Carwyn Evans, Director, Consulting at CCL; and Patrick MacGloin, Director at PwC (all pictured above).
