Board effectiveness in the UK – what does best practice look like?

The CISI's next timely masterclass for Fellows and Chartered Members looks at what makes for good board performance, four months before the dawn of the Senior Managers Regime – with Anthony Carey, Partner at international accounting firm Mazars

The masterclass – an evening session held at the London Capital Club on Monday 2 November from 6pm–9pm – will explore the vital strengths of highly performing boards, covering strategy, risk management, innovation and corporate culture. It will also explore the need for board members to combine personal impacts with being good team players, and the likely impact of the new Senior Managers Regime (SMR) on boardroom behaviour.

Anthony, who leads the board effectiveness practice in the UK and is an experienced facilitator of board effectiveness reviews across a range of sectors, including financial services, is well-placed to answer the question of what best practice looks like. He co-developed Mazars’ Board Polarities Model for the assessment of board effectiveness; is co-author of Mazars’ Board Charter for Sustainable Success, and is actively involved in the firm’s ‘Business. For Good’ initiative.

He is also a chartered accountant and chartered director who takes an active role in thought leadership issues and public interest issues related to the profession, especially in the areas of corporate responsibility and human rights; a member of the FRC Financial Reporting Lab Steering Group and also serves on the executive of the Quoted Companies Alliance; and a past member of the FRC’s Financial Reporting Review Panel, and was project director for the original Turnbull Report dealing with risk management and internal control.

If you are a Fellow or a Chartered Member, and you want to gain a greater understanding of the key issues affecting board members in the run-up to the SMR, then come along to this event on 2 November from 6pm–9pm (includes a hot buffet served from 7pm–7.30pm).

Attendees will qualify for three hours structured CPD, and a fee of £50 is chargeable. To book, please call customer support on +44 20 76450777.
