The winner of the Hoare Nairne Scholarship will save on the costs of all tuition and exam entry fees for the three-unit Chartered Wealth Manager Qualification, worth £2,500.

To be considered for the 2016–17 scholarship, candidates must submit a 1,500 word essay by Monday 2nd May 2016 answering the following question:

‘Analyse the implications of BREXIT upon a client’s assets’

Candidates must also submit a 400 word supporting statement outlining why they should be awarded the scholarship.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the CISI Educational Trust at the CISI offices in London at the beginning of May 2016.

The CISI Chartered Wealth Manager Qualification offers wealth managers (including discretionary portfolio managers, private bankers, IFAs and others dealing with high net worth clients) a postgraduate level specialist qualification encompassing the breadth of knowledge needed to provide a high quality service to clients. It is in line with the new Retail Distribution Review exam standards and compliant with the Financial Conduct Authority’s standards for the following six regulated activities: advising on and dealing with securities and derivatives, and advising on packaged products and managing investments

It comprises three narrative exams lasting three hours each on the subjects of Financial Markets, Portfolio Construction Theory and Applied Wealth Management, and is taken over an 18-month period.

Candidates must hold an appropriate benchmark qualification in order to enrol for the programme; a full list of accepted qualifications can be found at www.cisi.org/mwm.

Last year’s winner, Ross Crake, now works as Head of Investment Research at QI Financial Solutions. Ross completed the final exam leading to the Chartered Wealth Manager Qualification in December 2015. The scholarship played a big part in helping him achieve CWM: “I am now much more highly qualified and this has helped me gain a better understanding when carrying out my role”.
