I’m writing this one on behalf of your clients.

"Please stop giving me so much information. I trust you. I don’t need all the stuff you give me. It’s too much.”

I was consulting with an adviser recently and this issue came up. His support team were imploring him to cut down on the information, but he was struggling.

A lot of advisers are more than a little bit interested in all the technical stuff. It’s part of what’s attractive about our profession; as you learn more, there’s more value you can add for clients.

However, it’s one thing to know it and another thing to provide clients with fact sheets and reports on everything you know. That’s just overkill.

And please don’t blame the FCA, that’s just laziness. I know they don’t make life easy in terms of information output, but the great firms find a way to minimise it. There’s a significant difference between mere information and genuine communication.

Reducing meaningless information dramatically improves the client experience.

Remember, less is more.
