A cultural evening at the CISI's Bristol & Bath annual dinner 2016

The event at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery raised £1,193.75 for Deki, a charity that provides microloans to entrepreneurs in marginalised communities to help raise them out of poverty

Richard Noble OBE, challenger, entrepreneur and record breaker, known for bringing the World Land Speed Record back to Britain in 1983, was the guest speaker at this year’s event. He recounted his career to date and gave an entertaining and absorbing description of the challenges faced by a British team when on a limited budget.

The event was attended by 90 CISI board members, members and guests, who contributed to a charity collection for Deki.

Echoing Richard’s point about achieving a lot on a shoestring budget, Vashti Seth, CEO and founder of the charity, said: "Many of the families we support have grown up only having one meal a day. A Deki loan changes everything for them. Creating a business and an income means they can put dinner on the table every day, they can send all their kids to school and they know they won’t be turned away from the health care, as they can now afford a health care card."

Other speakers included Sir Alan Yarrow, Chartered FCSI(Hon), CISI Chairman;  and CISI President, Bristol & Bath, Simon Tutton, Chartered MCSI.

Top table guests included: Cllr Jeff Lovell, Lord Mayor of Bristol; Bridget Lovell, Lady Mayoress of Bristol; Helen Wilde, High Sheriff, City of Bristol; and John Moriarty, President, Bristol Law Society.

Sponsors of the event were Aberdeen Asset Management; BlackRock; GAM; Jupiter Asset Management; Natixis; and Schroders.
