CISI requires new capital market entrants in the UK to pass an integrity test

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) has announced that from 2 April 2013, it will require candidates for its customer facing entry level examinations for wholesale/capital markets financial services activities to take and pass the CISI’s IntegrityMatters online test before sitting the exam.

The CISI is introducing this initiative to ensure that new entrants to the capital markets sector, who will be working directly with firms and clients, realise the importance of Integrity and Ethics from the moment they enter the industry. This will also mean that integrity will be tested across the entire industry, not just in wealth management and retail financial advice.

The CISI’s IntegrityMatters test, which has been a requirement for its Chartered members to take since 2009, is being introduced to the capital markets by the CISI as it believes that the standard of integrity needs to be at least equal to that of the retail sector. This will also provide the public with some tangible evidence which demonstrates that banks and other financial organisations really are changing their culture.

CISI Student Event – Generation Y: the (modern) world of personal finance
Sparks discussion about who should be responsible for financial education
CISI Student Event – Generation Y: the (modern) world of personal finance

The Institute’s first Student Member event for 2013, held at Cass Business School, offered an insight into financial education and the attitudes and perceptions held by today’s youth.

Attended by more than 80 CISI members and guests, the experienced panellists - Sophie Robson, External Affairs Coordinator, CSFI, Stephanie Longford, Long Finance Coordinator, Z/Yen, and Jeannette Lichner MCSI author of #yourmoney, discussed the implications of the CSFI’s recent report “Generation Y: the (modern) world of personal finance”. The case for young people to receive better education has never been stronger especially as ‘university education is no longer free, jobs upon graduating are far from guaranteed, the housing ladder has been removed for many and work-based pensions are a thing of the past’.

The event explored ‘how tuned in to personal finance today’s young people are’ and debated what the future holds for the financial services. The discussions elicited engagement from the audience with attendees asking probing questions of our panellist and many sharing their own personal experiences about learning about finance.

How do you sit the quiz?

Active learning webcasts are identifiable by this stamp

After you have watched the webcast go to the 'Links' menu on the right of the programme and press 'Active Learning Quiz'.

This will take you to the quiz and once you have submitted your answers you will see your score. Your CPD log will then be updated overnight.

For those affected by the RDR, taking these tests will further evidence the structured learning element of CPD under the RDR.
