Exam Day – Essential Information

qualsWhat you must take with you

You must show proof of identity (other than the entry acknowledgement letter) on the Exam day to the CISI-appointed invigilator.

  • All identification needs to be valid, ie the date on the identification must not have expired.

  • The identification you bring must bear the exact name that your exam was booked under.
  • If your exam has been booked by a third party, it is your responsibility to ensure you have passed on the correct personal details.
  • You will not be allowed to sit the exam if your identification differs.

Full details of acceptable forms of identification are outlined in the CISI Exam Regulations

What time you need to arrive

Computer Based Testing Exams

You must arrive at the exam venue at least 20 minutes before the start of the exam. It is possible the invigilator will not allow you to enter the exam room if you are late for the exam.

Narrative Exams

You must arrive at the exam venue 30 minutes prior before the start of the exam.  It is possible the invigilator will not allow you to enter the exam room if you arrive less than 15 minutes before the scheduled exam start time.

What you can/cannot take into the exam

All candidates must leave the following in a locker or other area specified by the Invigilator:

  • Briefcases, bags, books (including dictionaries)
  • revision notes
  • mobile phones
  • all other personal belongings (except for stationery required for the exam and a jacket/jumper)

No reference material, books, revision notes or digital / programmable equipment including watches are allowed into the exam room.

For Computer Based Testing exams at Prometric test centres, you will be asked to show that your pockets are empty and you will be asked to submit to a metal detector search. Watches cannot be worn in the exam room and test centre staff may ask to inspect some jewellery items.

We appreciate this may make some candidates feel uncomfortable during an already pressurised situation, but we need to ensure fairness for everyone.

The CISI accepts no responsibility for the loss of any valuables.

Further details of permitted exam materials can be found in the CISI Exam Regulations.
