Interest Groups

The CISI’s Interest Groups enable members and non members to meet together and listen to presentations from senior practitioners, as well as engage in open discussion. The Groups offer a unique opportunity to share ideas and discuss relevant issues.

Meetings are held quarterly, where attendees enjoy a light lunch and the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals. Attendance at the Groups counts towards CISI members’ CPD targets.

Training & Competence Interest Grouptcig

The Training & Competence (T&C) Interest Group focuses on issues and discussions relating to training and HR and also provides updates on CISI initiatives. It is of interest to those in a senior training role but may also be relevant to anyone interested in matters relating to learning and development, organisational development or training and competence.

Meetings are are attended by representatives from wealth and fund management firms and the top 50 investment banks and both CISI members and non members are welcome.

Sandra Jacobs, Regulatory Risk Manager - Central Functions, Royal Bank of Scotland (Chairman) 

Sandra JacobsSandra has worked in the banking industry for 10 years and has a comprehensive knowledge of the Approved Persons and Training and Competence regimes.

Sandra joined Credit Suisse in 2000 where she was responsible for establishing the Registration Department which included developing all supporting policies and processes.  In 2007 she moved to RBS where again she established the Approved Persons Registrations team within Global Banking and Markets. 

Sandra’s current role is Registrations & Licensing Manger in the newly formed RBS Non Core Division. As well as having full responsibility for the Approved Persons Registration process, she established and now sits on both the RBS SIAP Community Forum and the RBS Approved Persons Working Group of which she is Chair.

Outside the bank, Sandra has been involved in many industry working groups through London Investment Banking Association (LIBA), the CISI and the Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) as well as being a founder member of the Compliance Professional Committee, which is an industry group created specifically to address issues arising within the Approved Persons and Training & Competence regimes.

Currently, Sandra sits on the CISI Exam Board as well as being Chair of the CISI Training Directors` Forum.  She recently chaired the annual CISI Training & Competence Conference and is totally committed to the comprehensive and transparent application of all aspects of regulatory controls.

Alison Stobbs, Director - Human Resources, Cazenove Capital Management Ltd (Deputy Chairman)

Alison joined Cazenove Group in 2003 becoming Director, Human Resources of Cazenove Capital Management Ltd, following its demerger in 2006. 

Prior to joining the firm, Alison spent 10 years at PricewaterhouseCooper during which time she was the first non-accountant to head up the Audit & Business Advisory Training Function consisting of 35 trainers responsible for the technical skills and management development of 8,000 UK staff.  In her last two years at PwC she was Human Capital Consultant for the South East with responsiblity for succession planning and executive coaching for 1,900 staff and 50 senior partners. 

Alison has a Masters Degree in HR Strategy; is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and holds the BPS Level A & B psychometric testing accreditation.  She has 34 years of HR & training experience, 18 of which have been in the financial services sector, 5 in construction (Ove Arup) and 11 in Local Government.

Lisa Blenkinsop, Senior Consultant and Project Manager, The Compliance Surgery (Committee Member)

Lisa BlenkinsopA dedicated and experienced Financial Services Compliance Consultant Lisa Blenkinsop has worked across an array of organisations and household brands delivering various aspects of Compliance Risk and Governance including Training and Competence for SMEs such as Union Income Benefit and Global Corporate Organisations such as RBS, Marsh, Aegon and Serco Global Services.

Lisa now manages her own consultancy The Compliance Surgery delivering services to the financial industry.

Bond Interest Group

The CISI have partnered with the EFFAS European Bond Commission (EBC) to form the Bond Interest Group. The Group's aim is to provide a lively forum for presentations and discussion on hot topics related to the bond and derivative markets.

Meetings are currently held in London but the group aims to meet in the European Financial Capitals in 2012.

Both CISI members and non members are welcome.

FCSI and Chartered FCSI members can also take advantage of attending the EFFAS Summer School in Spain.

European Regulation Interest Group

The aim of the European Regulation Interest Group is to provide a platform where members and non-members can meet to discuss new European Union regulations and how it operates.

This new interest group for CISI members will focus on European Regulation. The group will provide an insight into the approach and processes that drive European regulation and supervision, highlight the activities covered by EU supervisory bodies and consider hot topics and cultural differences.
