CISI Educational Trust
The CISI originally created the Educational Trust to broaden the scope of its scholarship awards and sponsor a number of financial subjects within its accredited Centres of Excellence. In March 2011, a significant decision was made by the CISI Board to allocate additional funds to the trust on a yearly basis and a proposal was made to the trustees to further expand the remit of the Educational Trust across the education spectrum.
In June 2011 the Trustees agreed to:
- an expansion of the number of trustees
- the establishment of a nominations committee, chaired by the CISI corporate trustee
- a three year budget of expenditure to include further scholarship awards and prizes; comprehensive teacher training, including the cost of travel and accommodation and the sponsorship of a teaching post in another region
In August 2012, as a result of stakeholder feedback, the trust further broadened its support of CISI educational initiatives by employing a Work Experience Placement Manager. This role will assist in coordinating work experience placement opportunities for schools and colleges delivering the Certificate for Introduction to Securities & Investment, building relationships between firms and educational providers across the country.
The trustees will meet three times a year to carry out its duties and to agree further expenditure in future years.

Clare Gore-Langton, Chartered FCSI(Hon) (Chairman)
Clare Gore Langton,Chartered FCSI(Hon), is an investment director, with over 25 years of experience of working with private client investment portfolios including trusts, charities and pension funds.
She is a Chartered Fellow(Hon) of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (CISI) where she was a director from 1992 until 2010. She is now Chairman of the CISI Educational Trust and is a member of the CISI Investment Committee.
Clare is a Trustee of the Laurence Keen Pension Fund and sits on the M.S. Society Investment Committee. She is also a Trustee of Calvert Trust, Exmoor.
Scott Dobbie, FCSI(Hon)
Scott Dobbie is a Senior Advisor to Deutsche Bank London: this work includes non-executive Chairman of DB UK Bank and Trustee of the UK and Offshore pension funds. Scott’s other interests also include Chairmanship of Standard Life European Private Equity Trust and until recently of The Edinburgh Investment Trust.
He was formerly Chairman of the Securities and Investment Institute (now the CISI) and of Crestco, a Commissioner of the Jersey Financial Services Commission and Director of a range of public companies and regulatory bodies. He has a background in stockbroking and investment banking, and is a Fellow of both The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and The UK Society of Investment Professionals.
Nigel Challis, FCSI(Hon)
Nigel started his career with Rothschild before moving on to KPMG, where he progressed through audit and insolvency into corporate finance. In 1987 he took charge of compliance and implemented the requirements of the Financial Services Act 1986. As head of compliance he subsequently took on responsibility for audit regulation, money laundering, ethics and data protection, liaising with the relevant Regulators. He has served on a number of ICAEW committees and was elected a director of the Securities Institute in 1993, where he set about achieving its charitable status. He joined the integrity committee and subsequently became chairman of the regulatory appeals panel. He became a compliance panellist for CEDR, and within KPMG Europe took on responsibility as a Partner for regulation imposed by the PCAOB, SEC and the EU’s 8th directive, overseeing regulatory visits as necessary. In 2003 he joined KPMG’s (new) audit risk management committee and also the Court of Common Council of the City of London.
He retired from KPMG in 2011 and has subsequently served on a several CoL committees and continued his involvement with a number of national charities and presently sits on the Bishop’s Council and as an external member of Oxford University’s conflicts committee. On retiring from the Board of CISI he became a trustee of CISI’s educational foundation. For fun, he participates in long distance classic car rallying.
Fionnuala Carvill, Chartered FCSI
Fionnuala is Commission Secretary at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, an appointment taken up in 2010. Prior to accepting this new role, Fionnuala spent 25 years in Private Banking. Fionnuala was a director of Rothschild Bank (CI) Ltd before deciding to spend five months as a volunteer with VSO in China in 2009 where she was an Organisational Development Adviser. During her time at Rothschild she was responsible for the management and development of the Private Banking business in addition to marketing and business deveopment. Fionnuala was previously a director at Bank Sarasin (formerly Rabobank ) where she was one of five founder staff members who established and developed the bank in Guernsey.
She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and Past President of its Guernsey Branch, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Institute of Financial Services), an Ambassador for the Chartered Management Institute, a Council Member of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, a director of The Guernsey Community Foundation, a member of the Institute of Directors, a member of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and was granted Freedom of the City of London in 2007.
Simon Culhane, Chartered FCSI
Simon was appointed Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment in May 2004, having previously worked both with a number of blue chip financial companies and in Central Government. His previous role was at Deutsche Bank, where he worked as Director, Chairman's Office, Global Investment Banking.
For three years prior to this Simon was Deputy Director, Prime Minister's Efficiency Unit, Cabinet Office, where he was responsible for the Unit's work in a number of major Government Departments. Simon spent his early career with Lloyds Bank plc in a number of roles including Senior Group Manager, Retail Banking for the Kensington area and in Chicago, USA.
A Chartered Fellow of the CISI and Member of the Institute of Financial Services, he was educated at St Paul's School, London and the University of Surrey. He is married with four children and his interests include sailing and supporting AFC Wimbledon.
Steven Robertson, Chartered FCSI
‘Steve Robertson is a Senior Financial Services Professional, having recently been the Head of Market Services, at the Corporation of Lloyd's, responsible for oversight of the Lloyd's Insurance Market.
A Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and an alumnus of Kent Business School, he is also a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and an Executive Committee Member of the Kent Branch of the IoD.
He has extensive strategic and operations experience having spent his career in Financial Services, including Senior Management roles at the London Stock Exchange and CRESTCo, the UK Central Securities Depositary, where he was Head of Service Delivery and a Relationship Management Director before moving to Lloyd's.
His work involves a strong focus on leadership, strategy and organisational change including sponsorship of a flagship cultural change programme, later adopted organisation-wide.
A business mentor for the Prince's Trust, he is also a member of the Demelza House Children's Hospice Business Advisory Panel, a registered speaker for Roffey Park Management Institute, and Accredited Business Coach with the Chartered Institute of Management and mentor to a Senior Police Officer in the Command Team of Hackney Police. He works closely with both Kent Universities, including lectures, coaching & mentoring for Masters Students.’
Lynda Johnson
Lynda Johnson is an educator with thirty five years experience in the state education system, twenty of those in senior leadership. For the last twelve years she has been the Headteacher of Bruntcliffe School, a large comprehensive school in Leeds, which won national recognition for its business and enterprise initiatives. Lynda retired from this position at the end of the academic year 2011/12.
